Postgames notes – Tigers cruise over Furman

September 20, 2009

By Craig Thomas

Missouri clearly overmatched Furman athletically, and after starting somewhat slow, the Tigers picked it up in a hurry, scoring twice in the first quarter and four more times before halftime. Mizzou (3-0) won 52-12 and will play at Nevada on Friday night.

– The game’s primary highlight was a lateral from Blaine Gabbert to Danario Alexander, who threw downfield to a wide open Jared Perry for the game’s first score. It was Alexander’s first TD pass.

– Gabbert overthrew receivers early, but later was more accurate and finished 17-25 for 256 yards and three TD’s. He also ran for a 40-yard touchdown. He didn’t play much of the second half.

– Kendial Lawrence was the leading rusher this week with 77 yards on ten carries. He got some carries late as Missouri chose to run the ball often with a big lead.

– Perry overall had a huge day, with 7 catches for 161 yards.

– DT Jacquies Smith returned an interception for a 43-yard touchdown late in the first half.

Missouri’s attendance was 61,617. However, many left by halftime and the crowd was sparse by the game’s end.

There are four undefeated teams in the Big 12. Texas A&M is 2-0. Kansas, Missouri, and Texas are each 3-0.
