Big 12: OU quiet on Stoops’ availability against Miami

LATE UPDATE: Landry Jones will start against Miami, according to former Missourian reporter David Ubben from the Oklahoman.

Earlier this week, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops addressed his staff’s assessment process regarding the recovery of starting quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, was injured against BYU in the season opener.

“We just have to feel comfortable that he’s healthy, that he feels good enough to make the throws we need to make, and he’s ready to do it,” Stoops said.

The No. 8 Sooners (2-1) head to Miami to face the Hurricanes on Saturday night. No. 18 Miami was pummeled by Virginia Tech last week in Blacksburg, 31-7.

Stoops said Bradford was “progressing. All his rehab to this point, everything has been positive.”

Still, Stoops was not ready to say whether Bradford would be available against Miami.

“I’m not going to talk about his chances (of playing),” he said bluntly.

Since taking over for Bradford, freshman backup quarterback Landry Jones is 49-81 for 673 yards. He has thrown nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
