Hosting Texas for homecoming

October 23, 2009

For those of you who haven’t read my colleague Robert Mays’ “Ten reasons why Texas is a bad homecoming opponent,” I highly recommend you do so.  It’s available in Friday’s edition of the Missourian or online at columbiamissourian.com.

While not a complete list, these are some past results from when teams chose Texas for homecoming.

In Missouri history:

Missouri has twice hosted Texas for homecoming. The Tigers won both games, beating the Longhorns 37-29 in 1997 and 3-0 in 1916.

In recent history:

Colorado hosted Texas for homecoming in 2008. The Longhorns won 38-14. Oklahoma State chose Texas for 2005’s homecoming. The Cowboys paid for it with a 47-28 loss.

In other college football history:

SMU hosted Texas for homecoming in 1965. The Mustangs beat the Longhorns 31-14. The win was No. 55 on SMUathletics.com’s “90 greatest moments in SMU football history.”
