3rd QUARTER: Mizzou vs. Iowa State

November 21, 2009

End of 3rd Quarter: Missouri has made up some ground so far in this half. Iowa State has the ball at its own 40-yard line.

De’Vion Moore tries to sneak across for a first down but is marked just short. Timeout Missouri.

Perhaps Sean Weatherspoon just got himself a Senior day highlight. He sacks Arnaud on third down deep in Iowa State territory.

Iowa State corner Leonard Johnson steps in front of Alexander and deflects the pass. Iowa State takes over at the 15-yard line. 3:16 on the clock.

Jerrell Jackson makes another first down catch to take Missouri across midfield. He held on this time, too. Other than his turnover he’s contributed a lot today in Jared Perry’s absence.

MISSOURI 24, IOWA STATE 24: A neat pass to an eligible lineman in open field ties the game.

Attendance today: 55,573. Home average for this season: 64,120

Arnaud showing off his footwork as he moves Iowa State to the 13-yard line.

Sean Weatherspoon picked Alexander Robinson up off the ground on that hit. Third down (6:23 to go). Iowa State converts though, on a short pass to Derrick Catlett.

Meanwhile, Iowa State is moving quickly and has crossed midfield. They’re not exactly worried about Alexander’s receiving stats!

Alexander breaks another Maclin record – now third on Missouri’s all-time list in career receiving yards with over 2300.

MISSOURI 24, IOWA STATE 17: Danario Alexander gets his Senior Day highlight. He catches a pass over the middle and outruns his defenders to the end zone.

Boy, a healthy Gabbert goes a long way. He scrambles for a first down once again (13 yards).

Missouri will take over at its own 10 following a good punt.

Loudest the crowd has been all game on this third down. That is until Will Ebner sacked Arnaud to force fourth down. Big defensive stand of the Tigers after giving up a long pass play. Cyclones will punt.

Nice catch by ISU wideout Sedrick Johnson. There was contact between him and his defender. Missouri is charged with holding and the crowd boos loudly. They wanted a pass interference on Johnson. It takes Iowa State all the way to the 33 of Missouri.

12:33 to go, Iowa State takes a short Tanner Mills kickoff to its own 31.

IOWA STATE 17, MISSOURI 17: Gabbert strikes with a deep throw down the sideline to Jerrell Jackson. 70 yards to the end zone. Ressel XP is good. The crowd woke up with that catch.

Meanwhile, Missouri defense forces a quick Iowa State punt with 13:39 on the clock. De’Vion Moore steps in at running back. He did not get a carry in the first half.

Mizzou running back Derrick Washington suffered a concussion. He will miss the rest of the game. I’m not sure when it happened.

Iowa State takes over at its own 36. The sun is coming out, and the lights have been turned on, so the field is much brighter now.

Some stats:

– Gabbert is 12 of 18 passing for 123 yards. The longest completion was only 19 yards.

– Rolandis Woodland has gotten more playing time today and turned in two catches for 10 yards.

– Austen Arnaud so far is adding his name to the list of quarterbacks to be successful in Columbia. He’s 16 of 22 for 170 yards. One TD and one early interception.

– Derrick Washington has netted 62 yards on 11 carries. His longest went for 22 yards, as the running game continues to show statistical improvement. Overall, Missouri has run for 102 yards as a team so far.
